We Gone Call this...The Blog About Nothing

This year, I’ve been making a concerted effort to give people their flowers whilst they can still smell em. Whether it be in work, social life or just in casual settings, it has been a personal goal of mine to celebrate and encourage people as best I can.

And that’s what I hope to do with this piece.

I call this one, “The Blog About Nothing”.

“Wow…That’s Crazy” represents Wale’s 6th studio album. And I’ve had the pleasure of listening to all 6. And one of the things I truly praise Wale for, is mastering his craft.

Within this crazy ecosystem we know as hip-hop there’s a number of different lanes and sounds which artists utilize to express themselves. Now, some seek to continually diversify their palette and portfolio by consistently seeking new ways to switch up their style. This is a skill I specifically credited and celebrated Tyler, the Creator for earlier this year.

However, some, like Wale, are so deep into their bag of tricks that they have been able to perfect a sound and style which suits them. And truly, when we consider the fact that he’s been under the tutelage of Rick Ross, who himself is the master of the flow which he tends to rap in.

When Wale delves into his poetic/spoken word bag, there is truly no one that can compete. He, somewhat, singlehandedly has created a subgenre within hip-hop for which he never gets enough credit. Even within that, whether it be “Bad”, “The Need to Know”, “On Chill” or the ALL-TIME GREAT song that is “Lotus Flower Bomb”, Wale has also perfected and continues to amass enormous success with the Rapper x R&B singer collaboration which a lot of other artists seem to struggle with, which is another trait Wale doesn’t get credit for. I mean truly there’s nothing like a Wale hit, they just feel so effortless and timeless. And Let’s not even get started on"Diced Pineapples".

FURTHERMORE, as Wale will tell you himself, we don’t give him enough love for the creativity and the quality of execution which he displayed in the great album which was “The Album about Nothing”. Wale’s speaks to this on “Sue Me”, the opening song on “Wow…That’s Crazy”; he says

“Ambition, my second album, how was you sleepin'? Dropped the album with Seinfeld, they thought I was tweakin'”

Now, personally, in my circles this album get a lot of love. However, as Wale has said previously (to which I would agree), if Kendrick Lamar had dropped the exact same album, it would be consider a top ten album of all time.

But…I’m not here to get into all that today, they’ll be another post on that soon. I’m really just writing to give credit where its due. Wale to this point has had a sensational career and one which needs to be celebrated even more than it already is. He’s the king of poetic/spoken word rap, he’s got hits for days and if you’re like me and you care about this stuff, he is by far hip-hop’s sneaker king. And with all that being said…

*Alexa, play “Sue Me” by Wale*
