"Real Ass Bitch, Give a Fuck Bout a Nigga"

And that's exactly how it should be.

The recent surge of women shining and thriving in the hip-hop has naturally been met with too much noise from discontent men hating on the movement. And granted by some women too. Now please, don't take this as me pandering or anything like that but I just feel a need to voice my thoughts on the hypocrisy.

So hot take, in case you didn't know, women are held to a much different standard in society. And unfortunately, that same standard has been pushed into the world of hip-hop.

What makes me say this?

For the past year whether it be on social media, watching male artists do interviews or just in casual conversation, I've heard a lot of people state that all these women rap about is twerking and popping pussy. Firstly...that's cap. However, even if that was true...what's the problem? We've only now come out of a decade of male rappers talking about popping pills and seeing who does the most.

Or had y'all forgot?

But I digress. My real issue with these foolish arguments is that it wholly diminishes and fails to recognize the talent these women have. Even if you don't appreciate the lyrics, you should still be able to appreciate and recognize that Meg thee Stallion has one of the most distinctive and, quite frankly, best flows in the whole of hip-hop right now. Even as a "rookie" she has found a way to master her craft and has subsequently created a lane for herself which no rapper other than maybe Da Baby can match.

What’s even more perplexing to me is that the vast majority of these female rappers I see criticized have shown they possess the incredible ability to make a hit! Whether it be Saweetie, City Girls, Doja Cat or others, in their short careers these women have clearly demonstrated that they have the talent and ability to create amazing music which resonates with a wide audience.

Thus, even if you can't get down with the lyrics, or the content, surely you can get down with the positive energy or the vibe. I mean let's be honest, wasn't this exactly what we all did when Lil' Uzi had his great run of hits?

What's more. If you have a problem with what these women rap about... then why listen? There is so much music out there today and so many means by which to consume music, that's it's quite clear if you're listening to an artist, an album or a song, it's by your own choice. And if that's the case, then you're just looking for a reason to be mad.

But let's say the content, the lyrics, the videos or just the music of the above mentioned rappers isn’t your thing. That’s absolutely fine, there’s really nothing wrong with that. But don’t be out there spewing nonsense and painting all the women in the game with the same brush. Just because Meg thee Stallion ain’t for you maybe Rapsody will be. If you’re not really into the music designed for the club, why not try Noname and her poetic, spoken word rap. Remy Ma, Young MA, Tierra Whack, Rico Nasty, Kamiyah.

The point I’m trying to get across here is that we’re in a era with an unprecedented array of talent and active female rappers. And rather than tear them down because they don’t make music for you why not go find some who do and champion those. And even if you can’t find any to relate to…just don’t listen and keep your hate to yourself.
